Multi-Sectoral Collaboration

National Business Compact Coalition

March 16 2020  saw the birth of the National Business Compact Coalition (NBCC) Kenya Chapter - a consortium of public & private multi-sectoral players forging a partnership under the auspices of the Marketing Society of Kenya. Our mandate is to accelerate local action and support government efforts in countering the corona virus pandemic.

My Role

As Head of the Secretariat, I have oversight for the partnerships of competing Brands in the hygiene business, last mile distributors, non- governmental organizations, digital tech agencies, multi-lateral organizations as well as ministries in government represented in the consortium. In addition, I lead a team of operational staff who implement strategy on the ground.

The Challenge

Balancing competing interests of the different publics in the consortium and conflict resolution that would otherwise hamper the progress of the work being done by NBCC. Financial constraints that limit the hiring of human capital required. (Maggie to re-write this)

Results

Using innovative models of multi-stakeholder cooperation and community feedback systems, I have supported teams in the design and delivery of behaviour change communication and spearheaded efforts to drive volunteers and partners in the distribution of hygiene products and over 5,400 handwashing facilities to vulnerable populations across 47 counties in Kenya. Furthermore, I have established systems for mobilising monetary contributions from the public and private sector to bolster the government’s rapid response measures against COVID-19. My stakeholder management and stewardship of volunteers, secretariat staff and NBCC partners to systematically collect and share best practices has institutionalised our learning of emergency response mechanisms, attracting funding from the Swiss Development Corporation & the Department for International Development.
