Corporate Sustainability
Anheuser - Busch InBev
While at ABI in the role of Global Marketing Director, I conceptualized an initiative – a pro bono marathon skills program which demonstrated the organization’s commitment to sustainability in the communities in which it operated.
My Role
As the Leader of this initiative, I constituted a team from the corporate affairs and human resources functions to develop the pro bono marathon skills program. The undertaking brought together company employees, social enterprises and non-profit agencies to work together for mutual benefit.
The Challenge
My role in the organization required frequent and extensive travel to our markets in South America, etc. The initiative was not one of my key deliverables to the business and therefore demanded that I put in extra hours to an already frantic work schedule . Moreover, sustaining momentum within the organization from colleagues who were also dedicating their spare time to participate in the program demanded persuasion, motivation and relationship building of the highest level.
Results
The success of the initiative was illustrated in increased employee engagement as employees had the opportunity to learn and apply their critical thinking and problem- solving skills to address issues affecting the organisation and the communities it supports. In addition, it built the company brand globally and led to an increased commitment by the business to support and implement community engagement with staff.
