Dear Guest,
This document contains useful information, phone numbers and the house rules.
CHECKING IN: check-in from 2/3pm. Check out 10/11am.
CARETAKER: Hemedi will be onsite.
Welcome to Villa Mashariki
SATISFACTION: If anything is not satisfactory at arrival or during your stay, please let us know. Where we can, we will try to solve it as soon as possible (WhatsApp 0759700340).
TRAVEL PREP: All the information you need to prepare for your travel to Diani can be found: here
NO SMOKING: please note that smoking is not permitted inside the villa. Smoking in the garden is allowed. Please discard your cigarette buds in the bin.
NO PARTIES: parties and sound systems are not allowed. Please respect the neighbours - quiet hours are after 10:30/11pm. Small or day functions are allowed with prior permission.
SWIMMING POOL: swimming is at your own risk. There is no lifeguard on duty. Non-confident swimmers and children should be cautious and always supervised. Be extra careful when consuming alcohol. Please shower before entering the pool.
Glasses and bottles are prohibited in and around the swimming pool. There are plastic cups and iron tumblers in the kitchen.
For stays more than 3 nights, please give Hemedi the time and space to clean the pool, so the pool water does not turn murky.
POOL TOWELS: there are pool towels at the side of the veranda. Please do not take the green towels to the beach.
You can take the old towels on top of the cupboard, on the veranda, to the beach (please return them at the end of the day).
There are only four beach beds with a pool umbrella at the pool. Plenty of shade from the trees.
DAMAGE: you will be responsible for any damage, breakage, or loss during your stay, which will be replaced at the guest’s expense - determined at the current cost associated with the replacement.
KEYS: It is safe to leave the room doors unlocked, but feel free to lock-up. If you lose a key to the room or main door, we will have to charge you a lock replacement fee.
House Rules
LAYOUT: there are four bedrooms and a reception room with a double bed in the villa. Space for 12 people comfortably.
A total of seven beds: four kings, one small double, one Ikea extendable double and a single bed. There are four bathrooms and a pool shower. Room pictures here.
The villa is set-up for outdoor living with a large veranda and has a small indoor lounge area and balconies, but no dedicated indoor living room.
KITCHEN: If you need anything please ask the chef.
The kitchen is set up for the chef and is meant to be used by him. Please let us know if you miss anything and we will try to get it.
It might not be directly clear how something works. If need be, please ask the chef how to operate the equipment (like the coffeemaker).
A/C: Please note that the A/C’s don’t run on the solar backup and only the two bedrooms on the first floor have Air Conditioning. So there could be a time that they do not operate during a power blackout.
When you want to use the A/C, Hemedi will give you the controls and close the ventilation shutters.
Please use the A/C responsibly: close all doors to the balcony, bedroom and bathroom when using the A/C, and switch the A/C off when not in the room.
Tip: have a “cold”/lukewarm shower before you go to bed! You will sleep better.
FAN: the other rooms in the villa have ceiling fans and natural ventilation only.
WIFI: the Wi-Fi is free (Fibre optic internet - 24 Mbps). You will find the wifi network/password in the rooms.
If you need to work during your stay, and especially for important meetings, we recommend you get a safaricom sim - as back-up.
CLEANING: to accommodate cleaning, please leave the doors to the rooms unlocked.
ELECTRICITY: the fans and lights run on solar power (day and night and during blackouts).
There is a solar socket in the hallway, veranda, and upstairs reception room. Hemedi will point them out. Don’t use the solar sockets for hairdryers, irons and toasters etc. to prevent overloading or breaking the system and causing a blackout.
AMENITIES: we provide sheets and towels, which will be changed every 3-4 days.
Also: shampoo, shower gel, toilet rolls and (spring) drinking water are made available during your stay.
SHOWERING: For hot water, switch on the heater 30 minutes before. The switch is in the kitchen above the cooker.
Please switch off when you are done.
Pressure Pump: We have a pressure pump for a good shower flow and hot water upstairs. We have installed a quieter pump, but If the noise - switching on - bothers you, you can turn off the pressure pump when not showering. The switch is next to the meter box in the dining area. Hemedi can point it out.
The pressure pump can also cause a big burst of water in the master suite's bathroom sink.
The Villa
GUARD: the night guard at the main gate and compound is Samwell.
The day guard at the main gate is Hassan.
MACHINE WASHING: The staff can wash your clothes for a fee of ksh 500 per load. Ironing can be provided for an additional fee.
MONKEYS: don’t feed the monkeys, please. They will terrorise you and ruin your holiday.
The monkeys tend to roam around Diani in the morning and late afternoon. Monkeys do not respect women so please be careful.
Please do not leave anything that resembles food out in the open or in your room, or the monkeys will steal it. You can put all the food in the kitchen.
MASSAGE: we have a professional massage bed and can ask our resident masseuse to come to the villa for a massage - in the comfort of your own room
Cost: Ksh 2,500 for an hour.
CAT: we have two cats who live on the property (Duby & Bossk).
Please keep in mind that there might have been guests staying before you who loved our cats, which can be confusing for them.
Don’t feed any cats at the dinner table, please.
TIPPING: when you had a pleasant stay feel free to tip the staff. They will appreciate it.
