Change.
During my time in London I have primarily worked in change management roles.
I implemented a range of programme offices to improve programme governance.
Next to smaller programs and change activity, I ran an offshoring programme that built a project management capability in India.
Business & Finance.
Educated as a Finance Manager, I established finance processes early on in my career.
My finance background and problem solving skills then set me up to take on various business management type roles.
I also hold an Executive Master in Finance & Control (Finance MBA) from the Amsterdam Business School.
Energy
I spent the start of my career in the energy industry. First as a Management Consultant, in the area of market deregulation & energy trading, advising power exchanges and utilities in Asia and Europe and training people globally on market deregulation and energy trading.
After which I joined a utility company in the Netherlands and spent four years as a business unit Finance Manager.
Financial Services
I studied finance and business economics, worked as a finance manager and when I moved to London I was in banking for many years. First as a management accountant and commercial manager at Abn Amro and later at the Royal Bank of Scotland (now Natwest Group) in business management and change management roles in both Retail and Global Markets.
Start-ups
Last year I was using my business and finance background at a start-up called Columbus Technologies to broaden the market for their decision support tool.
I was also involved with Journey, a social media platform as a community advisor, and created and ran a lifestyle surf brand for a while.
Teacher
In my spare time I am a keen kitesurfer and also love snow sports and martial arts.
My passion for sports resulted in positions as kitesurf instructor on the beaches of New York and martial arts teacher running self-defence classes in Central Park, and ski instructor in Austria a long time ago.
This has helped me to develop personally and has given me a different perspective of people management, training and people development.
Community builder
I founded NYC Kiteboarding in 2018 and co-founded the London Kitesurfers Association back in 2014. Both clubs combined now have nearly 3000 members across the two cities.
I enjoy organising events and working with people in the industry, but interestingly it also develops my inter-personal and leadership skills.
I founded the Minkowski Space Time NYC chapter an exclusive future thinking community.
Global Citizen
I have been fortunate to have lived in Amsterdam, London, Boston, New York and Kenya and my work has taken me to several countries in Asia and South-Asia as well.
I have enjoyed the challenges of working with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds, which has improved my intercultural skills.
I speak Dutch, English and Portuguese and have basic knowledge of French, German, Swahili and Spanish.
