FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I take kite lessons?

We can’t stress this enough—TAKE LESSONS!

Learning from YouTube or attempting it in a park is extremely dangerous.

There are several schools along the UK coast.

Lessons start from about £99 and all the gear is included. All below schools and instructors are certified.

The most popular kite schools traveling from London are:

Camber Kitesurfing (Camber Sands).

The Kitesurf Centre (Camber Sands).

Kitesurf Kent (Whitstable).

BN1 Kitesurfing (Lancing).

The Kite & SUP (Brighton & Worthing).

Hampshire Kitesurfing Centre (near Portsmouth).

  • Up North: Northern Kites (The Wirral). Run by a London Kitesurfer (Adam).

Is it Safe to Kitesurf in the Winter?

Winter kitesurfing in the UK might sound daunting, but trust me, it’s one of the most exhilarating experiences out there. Picture crisp, sunny days, empty beaches, and steady winds, it’s kitesurfing at its finest.

That said, the winter chill isn’t to be underestimated. With the right preparation, gear, and mindset, you can tackle the icy waters and enjoy kiting year-round.

You can pass by on the way to the beach or send your kite to most of them (sending: from £9 each way).

What insurance do people use for kitesurfing, and does it include gear?

Third party Liability As part of your membership to the British Kitesports Association (BKSA) you automatically receive the benefit of the association’s Public Liability and Group Personal Accident insurance. See full insurance overview here.

Gear Most insurers offer low coverage per item for kite gear. The best option is to insure your kite equipment through home insurance, which provides global coverage at a low cost. You don't even need a full home contents policy. One London Kitesurfer insured £3,500 worth of gear for just £26 a year with Barclays, while travel insurance for similar coverage typically costs over £200.

Travel Sports Cover Direct (link), Virgin (link), Battleface (link). Make sure you check the policy before you travel.

When and where are the kitesurfing drinks?

Kite Drinks take place on the first Wednesday of every month at Shaw’s Booksellers Pub near Blackfriars, starting around 6/6:30pm. Look for the group on the left side of the bar, where you'll see a sign that reads "Reserved for London Kitesurfers." (map).
